The Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) Library has evolved from a modest technical collection in 1954 into a dynamic, multi-functional academic hub. Initially serving a small technical institute, the Library has grown in size, scope, and infrastructure, aligning its development with the University's transformation. From the 1970s to the 1980s, the Library diversified its collections beyond engineering, embracing disciplines such as health sciences, commerce, and the arts. The digital revolution in the 2000s ushered in computerized cataloguing, internet access, and integration into national consortia, significantly enhancing accessibility and user engagement.

Departmental libraries were established in the early 2000s to support specialized academic needs in fields like engineering, computer science, and health sciences. Modernization efforts between 2010 and 2016 introduced collaborative learning spaces, group discussion rooms, and digital learning commons. The Library also houses special collections and archives to preserve KsTU’s and Ghana’s cultural heritage and has become a key player in research support, scholarly communication, and international collaboration.

Leadership has been pivotal to its progress, with visionary librarians steering policies, infrastructure, and technological integration. Staff development, digitization, and new sections like academic support and e-resources have reinforced the Library's mission. The Department of Information Science establishment in 2016 underlines the Library’s academic influence. Looking forward, KsTU Library envisions a hybrid learning future—integrating AI, global partnerships, and community outreach to remain a beacon of academic excellence.
