The Cataloguing Department is responsible for processing materials, ensuring they are accurately described and organized in the library’s catalogue, and making them available to patrons. These behind-the-scenes activities performed by the Department include activities such as cataloging, classification, metadata creation, and assigning call numbers and other descriptive information to library collection items which enable users to find and access library resources with ease.
The department is also in charge of maintenance of online catalogue (OPAC), creation and maintenance of MARC records in the catalogue, labeling, and distribution of library materials.
